The property developer Martin Grant Homes has submitted a planning application to Woking Borough Council to build over 300 residential units on two sites, North of Saunders Lane in Mayford.
Martin Grant Homes has owned land in Mayford since at least 1958. An official council document from 2001 also states that a "remainder of the affected land" had been owned by the company since 1981.
Martin Grant Homes acquired this protected Greenbelt land waiting for an opportunity to profit from it.
The company has a long history of submitting planning applications for housing developments on this land in Mayford, with records of applications dating back several decades.
Despite an extremely lengthy are argous process assessing Greenbelt sites in the DPD process, that identified these sites as unsuitable. Martin Grant Homes are trying again, this time sighting Grey Belt as there reasoning.
