Mayford Unites to Protect its Green Belt!

October 19, 2018

Thursday evening's council meeting saw Mayford residents turnout to protest about the removal of green belt land in their village.

Thank you to all residents who wrote emails and letters, delivered literature and showed their support in this fight to save the village's identity.

The fight has been a long arduous journey that has not yet finished, however it has to date yielded the following results:

GB7    Nursery Land adjacent to Egley Road

North Field to be proposed as OPEN SPACE NOT TO BE BUILT ON

GB9   Land north of Saunders Lane SAVED

GB10 Land north of Saunders Lane SAVED

The fight continues regarding:

GB7 Nursery Land adjacent to Egley Road

South Field which is safeguarded for development in 2022-2027

GB8 Woking Garden Centre  which is safeguarded for development in 2027-2040

Cllr Ashley Bowes  acknowledged the contribution the Mayford Village Society played in bringing to his attention the documented importance of retaining the green space between Mayford and the urban sprawl of Woking.

The Mayford Village Society will be relentless in its fight to save GB7 South Field, especially the 'HOOK HILL WOODS' which provide vital bio-diversity on this site, including critical wildlife habitat.

We will continue to update regularly on these issues.
